Connecting a community : Dailymotion 'React' feature
Dailymotion, undergoing a full rebranding, aimed to launch a new “React” feature allowing users to upload videos and interact with each other in more engaging ways. This project was part of the broader vision to strengthen community engagement on the platform by introducing new tools for live recording, reactions, and user interaction.
The challenge: Align the product vision with engineering constraints and user needs. Build the foundations for a feature that could scale with future community tools.
Condensed 1-Minute Read
Dailymotion’s rebrand included a new “React” feature enabling users to upload videos and interact in real time. My role was to define the feature foundations through UX flows, low-fi mockups, and early stakeholder validation to prevent blockers. I explored live video recording integration, built an interactive prototype, and ran 5 moderated tests to capture motivations and hesitations. The validated v0 aligned user needs with technical feasibility and was ready for integration, reducing rework and enhancing community engagement potential.
Exploring boundaries & needs
Started by benchmarking leading video and social platforms to understand how users interact with upload, reactions, and sharing.
In parallel, discussions with product and engineering teams helped identify technical constraints around live recording and content moderation.
User interviews then revealed clear expectations and friction points, guiding a feasible yet user-centric feature scope.
Prototypes & UX Flows
Based on early findings, I created mid-fidelity prototypes and detailed UX flows to visualise the React feature’s core interactions.
These deliverables became our shared tool to iterate quickly, align across design, product, and tech, and validate early hypotheses before high-fidelity design.
User Testing
Moderated usability tests using interactive ProtoPie prototypes allowed us to observe real user behavior across upload and reaction flows.
Sessions helped refine navigation clarity, remove hesitation points, and validate new interaction models before development.
UI Deliverables & Brand Integration
Final UI deliverables were built in Figma, integrating the new Dailymotion brand identity and ensuring consistency across devices.
A complete handoff package, including responsive layouts, design tokens, and interaction specs, ensured a smooth transition to development teams.

Key Learnings
Early alignment between product, design, and engineering drastically speeds up delivery.
Testing with realistic media (video+audio) yields more accurate feedback than static mocks.
Starting with low-fi, high-clarity flows helps stakeholders quickly understand the vision and spot risks.
